Abstract

Introduction : The number of neonatal care unit (NCU) graduates is increasing. Many of them suffer from many problems and deaths among them are more than their healthy colleagues that need a follow up (FU) medical programs (2).The aim of work: To assess mortality among NCU graduates of Mansoura University Children’s Hospital (MUCH) within 2012-2014 during their 1st two years of life. Research Plan: Assessment of mortality among NCU graduates of Mansoura University Children’s Hospital (MUCH) within 2012-2014 during their 1st two years of life using 2012 WHO-VA instrument then interpretation by the interviewer as well as by InterVA-4 version 4.04 to reach causes of their deaths. Results: Main risk factors contributing to post NCU discharge mortality are CHDs and LOS during NCU admission. Conclusion: Verbal autopsy is a reliable and reproducible method to reach the cause of a death among infants during early two years of life where death registration systems are underdeveloped.
