Abstract

The present study revealed to estimate the environmental radioactivity levels in Sukari and Hamash gold mines and its surrounding areas by measuring the radon concentrations with Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors. Also, some other important radiometric measurements using both NaI(Tl) Scintillation and Hyper Pure Germanium spectrometers to assess different radiological parameters such as Specific Activity, Hazard Indices, Excess Life Cancer Risk, Annual Effective Dose Equivalent to each body tissue. Then, the uranium, thorium, and radium equivalent values were also calculated in part per million and Potassium percent then, we explain and compare the results according to the nature of the geological maps of the areas under investigation.
Monitoring of the investigated area using radiometric measurements concluded in high radiation hazards during exposure to naturally occurring radioactive materials, so we not recommended rocks of these areas as building materials.
We demonstrate the economic benefits of the results obtained and characterized the investigated area as radioactive locations and contain a high concentration of Uranium so it can be used to mining for Uranium.
Finally, strong safety considerations and applying radiation protection protocols are recommended to minimize occupational exposures and keep it as low as possible in Sukari and Hamash gold mines area.
