Abstract

Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate clinically the maximal bite forces (MBF) and satisfaction of patients restored with implants, combined tooth-implant and tooth- supported monolithic zirconia fixed dental prostheses (FDPs). Furthermore, aimed to evaluate the fracture resistance of monolithic zirconia FDPs supported by implants, tooth-implant and tooth-supported abutments. Subjects and methods: Thirty partially edentulous patient in need of three unit FDPs in their mandibular posterior region were selected and divided into three equal groups (n=10). group (I) patients received two implants at second premolar and molar regions, group (TI) patients received one implant at second molar region and group (T) patients with missing lower first molar. All the restorations were constructed from monolithic zirconia. All the patients were evaluated one week after placement of restorations (base line) and then every 3 months intervals up to 1year and 6 months years for MBF and satisfaction using force transducer occlusal force meter and visual analog scale (VAS) respectively. Thirty monolithic zirconia FDPs were constructed using CAD/CAM technology and used in the laboratory study. These prosthesis were divided into three equal groups. In the first group the prosthesis were cemented onto dental implants. In the second group the prosthesis were cemented onto tooth and dental implant. In the third group the prosthesis were cemented onto tooth from two sides. All the samples were subjected to artificial aging (98 N of chewing force was exerted and repeated 300,000 times to clinically simulate the 2 years and 6 months chewing condition) then subjected to fracture test using Universal Testing Machine at a crosshead speed of 1mm/minute.
