Abstract

Aim of study: This Study was intended to evaluate the ability of different types of sealers to fill simulated lateral canals in resin blocks. Materials and Methods: Eighteen epoxy resin blocks with simulated root canals were used for this study. The blocks were divided into three groups (n=24 canals) according to the used sealer (MM-Seal, GuttaFlow2 and TotalFill BC sealers). The blocks were obturated using single cone technique # (30/04) with different types of the tested sealers. After setting, the depth of sealer penetration into apical and coronal lateral canals were measured using Stereomicroscope (Boshida, shenzhen, china, BD-45b2, x50). Statistical analysis was performed using one way ANOVA followed by post HOC Tukey test. RESULTS:At the coronal level, GuttaFlow2 penetrated lateral canals significantly (P<0.05) higher than total-fill. However MM-Seal did not differ significantly from the two sealers (P>0.05). At the apical level, total-fill showed a more significantly penetration into lateral canals (P<0.05) compered toGuttaFlow2 sealer, while MM-Seal had no significant sealer penetration (P>0.05) compared to both sealers. No significant difference was found in sealer penetration at, coronal or apical level, between Gutta-Flow2 and MM-Seal sealers (P>0.05). However the sealers penetration at the apical level was significantly higher (P<0.05) than the coronal level using TotalFill sealer. COCLUSIONS:TotalFill had the ability to penetrate apical lateral canals to greater level. On the contrary GuttaFlow2 sealer penetrated coronal lateral canals effectively, while MM-Seal had an intermediate efficacy in sealer penetration.
