Abstract

Alhagi maurorum belongs to the family Leguminosae and commonly known as camelthorn or Aqule. Alhagi species contain several compounds such as fatty acids, sterols, flavonoids, alkaloids, triterpenes, resins and tannins. It has been used traditionally to treat polyps in nasal cavities, certain tumors and kidney stones. It has been mentioned that Alhagi maurorum has many therapeutic properties as; laxative, gastroprotective, expectorant, antiseptic and antidiarroheal properties. Oil extracted from its leaves has been used for treatment of hemorrhoids and rheumatism, while its flowers have been reported to treat piles.
This study was designed to investigate the possible analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiulcerogenic, antioxidant and hepato and nephroprotective effects of aqueous methanolic extract of Alhagi maurorum via the following experiments.
