Abstract

This study was carried out on 80 mature male rats were divided into 4 equal groups each of 20 as followed:
group (1): represented as a control group in which rats were not medicated and left as control. group (2): Rats in this group received repeated oral doses of vitamin E l00 mg /kgb.wt) for successive 21 days as standard antioxidant once daily. group (3): Rats in this group received repeated oral doses of meloxicam 0.27 mg for successive 21 days, once daily. group (4): Rats in this group received repeated oral doses of meloxicam 0.27 mg for successive 21 days plus (Vit E) 100 mg / kg b.wt once daily for 21 days.
Blood samples were taken at the end of 1st, 7th, 14th days post-treatment. In all groups blood samples were taken from each rat of four groups for biochemical studies. At the end of experiment (24 hrs after the last dose) rats were sacrificed and the samples were collected.
The results were summarized as follow:-
1. Effect of combination between meloxicam and Vit. E on ALT at 1st, 7th, 14th day post-treatment.
Administration of vit. E to mature male rats induced non-significant change in their therapeutic dose at 1st, 7th, 14th days compared with control group. The administration of meloxicam to mature male rats induced significant increase in therapeutic dose at 1st, 7th, 14th days compared with control group. The administration of (meloxicam + vit E) to mature male rats induced significant decrease.
