Abstract

Failing to conceive is not an uncommon problem among couples. Approximately one in six couples attempting pregnancy fail to conceive naturally after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse. Although more than 50% will succeed, many of them will be subjected to infertility treatment which contains different modalities. The use of these modalities to assist pregnancy is considered by many authors to be associated with multifetal pregnancy.
Multifetal pregnancy itself is associated with more risk of morbidity and mortality for mother and fetus than the singleton pregnancy. One of these common problems is preterm labour. Cervical Cerclage is considered a reasonable prophylactic measure for prevention of preterm labour in these patients.
The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of preterm birth from rescue versus elective cerclage in twin pregnancy resulting from assisted reproductive techniques.
For that purpose, 200 women with twin pregnancy after assisted reproductive therapy were included in the study then Were divided into two groups, GroupA Included women that received Cerclage between 12 and 15 weeks gestation. And group B were Rescue Cerclage was performed for twin gestation resulting from assisted reproduction only if Cervical length is <25 mm by transvaginal ultrasound performed between 16 and 24 weeks, Demonstrable dilatation of the internal os, Funneling of the cervix as detected by trans-vaginal ultrasound or Prolapse of the membranes.
