Abstract

Algae are an important source of bioactive products. In this
study, algae were collected from Red sea, Egypt, and screened for
their
potential bioactivity, where Ethanol/Dichloromethane (1:1) solvent was used. In antimicrobial assay, crude extract of Caulerpa sp. showed the highest antibacterial and anti-yeast activity among all tested extracts. Regarding the anticancer activity, Chondria sp. crude extract showed the highest activity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells. On the other hand, molecular identification of the species using cytochrome oxidase subunit one gene was successful and revealed the distinct biodiversity between Red sea species and their relatives from different geographic areas.
