المستخلص The current thesis was carried at Menoufia university, Cairo university and Uppsala university. It aimed to characterize the bee bread extracts and fractions using chromatography coupled with spectrometry tools, identify the bioactive compound(s) and elucidate their structure and finally evaluate the fractions and the purified compound(s) for anti-cancer activity. Firstly, bee bread was collected from the combs (Figure 1), cleaned and dried at 35-40°C at moisture level of 8-10%. The samples were kept in the refrigerator at 5-8°C in hermetically sealed dishes. Secondly, extraction of non-volatile constituents were done by solvent gradient from low medium to polar solvents (alcohol) for polar compounds while extraction of volatile constituents was done using sialylation technique. We used different chromatographic techniques for isolation and purifications (column chromatography and HPLC). Various spectroscopic tools were used (NMR, LC-MS-MS and GC-MS) to identify the compounds. |
