Abstract Patient advocacy is seen as a critical role for the nursing profession. Moreover, Patient’s satisfaction is therefore of high value and it is useful to understand the need of patient. The study aimed to assess the nurse patient advocacy role and patient satisfaction in selected hospitals in Port Said city. Design: A descriptive research design was utilized to conduct this study. Sample: It was carried on 485 nurses and 350 patients. Setting: the study was conducted at El Zohour central hospital, Port Said and Port Fouad general hospitals. Tools: two tools were used to collect data: Advocacy Assessment Scale, and Patient Satisfaction scale. Results: the results of this study showed that 36.1% of the studied patients were between the ages of 30 – 40 years, 90.9% of nurses were working at inpatient departments, total mean score of the overall role of nurse as advocate was 79.95 ± 7.76, and total mean score of patient satisfaction was 33.44 ± 3.74. Conclusion: The nurses were unsatisfied regarding their role as a nurse advocate and the patients were unsatisfied in relation to overall care provided. Also, there was no statistically significant correlation between overall roles of nurse as advocate and patient satisfaction regarding care provided. Recommendation; the study recommended the need to establish an educational training program for nurses to upgrades their knowledge and practices regarding advocacy role and patient satisfaction. Also, further studies are needed to build upon the findings of this study. |
