Abstract

In humans, bifidobacteria represent a major part of the normal intestinal bacteria and play a
great important role in the colonisation resistance to exogenous microorganisms in the large
bowel. The most effective function of Bifidobacteria is mainly the immunomodulatory activity.
Bifidohacterium longum (BL) and other of bifidobacteria species have been used as dietary
supplements. Modulation of colon miRNAs by probiotic bacteria, especially B. longum, is
rarely investigated.
This study aimed to investigate the modulatory role of the B. longum, isolated from women
breast milk, on some oncogenic and tumor suppressor miRNAs as well as IL-1β and IL6
targeted-miRNAs in murine colorectal cancer induced on the top of inflammatory ulcerative
colitis model. The influence of b. longum on microRNAs in colorectal cancer may provide an
important outcome in identifying the b. longum therapeutic targeted dysregulated miRNAs
that may help as an edible therapy for CRC.-
