Abstract The study is a prospective observational study where patients newly diagnosed to have ESRD were enrolled, and were followed up over period of three months of regular hemodialysis. Thirty patients underwent baseline echocardiography and were followed up over 3 months where another echocardiography was done post dialysis. The main objective of this study was detecting the effect of hemodialysis on RV systolic function and pulmonary artery pressures in newly diagnosed ESRD patients after three months of regular hemodialysis. The secondary objectives were (1) Evaluating the use of right ventricular outflow tract fractional shortening (RVOT FS) obtained by M-mode echocardiography as a measure of right ventricular systolic function and (2) Determining the relationship between right ventricular outflow tract fractional shortening and other established measurements of right ventricular systolic function. |
