Abstract

Premature Rupture of Membranes (PROM) refers to spontaneous
rupture of the fetal membranes prior to the onset of labor. Preterm PROM
is defined as PROM occurring prior to 37 weeks of gestation.
Sonographic measurement of myometrial thickness (MT) has been
introduced as an applicable and noninvasive method in predicting the
length of latency interval.
An analytic descriptive case control study on 50 pregnant females
with PPROM (28-34 weeks) (case group) and 50 healthy pregnant
females within the same gestational age Preterm non laboring control
group (P-CTR) attending at Suez Canal University Maternity hospital
during the period from July 2016 to May 2017.
The sonographic measurement of myometrial thickness and the latency
interval of patients with PPROM without labor pain were recorded.
Results: After the study we found that there was a positive
correlation between the Myometrial thickness measured by abdominal
ultrasound and the Latency Interval in Non-laboring patients with
PPROM especially the LUS that could explain 85.3% of latency for better
management of these cases.
