This study aims to shed the light on the distinctive characteristics of Maronites’s method in translation, by comparing his translation with the text of Sophocles in Ancient Greek. The nature of this research depends mainly on two methods: the comparative and historical linguistics, from the present study the most important results are the following. - the text showed how interrogation relied upon for inspiration and influence rather than the direct style, It conveys the recipient from the direct level of speech to the meanings and connotations underlying the text. and it also completes what the direct words can not explain and clarify, where the text showed that the meaning of speech is not always the reality of the phenomenon. - Maronites tried to keep the vitality of the original text in the receptor language, trying to present the translation in a way that would hopefully excite the reader response and impact of emotional text, which Sophocles is trying (tries) to raise, he used familiar language forms in the receiving language to express in a natural way for this sense. - Metaphorical interrogation represents 46.2% of the total of the interrogation (questions) in the play, while the real interrogation represents 53.85% of the total of the questions in the play. - Maronites agreed with Sophocles on the denotation of rhetorical questioning, but in terms of structural construction Maronites differed in his translation from Sophocles in some places. - Differed field of semantic question in the original and translated text in some places, where expanded the meaning of the question at Sophocles, and narrowed at Maronites other times, and vice versa. - Sophocles expressed the rhetorical interrogation in a question style, by 96.4%, while Maronites translated it also in a question style, but by 84.5%, perhaps he saw that this is the most appropriate in the receiving language, and thus creating the required emotional response to the reader. -Sophocles expressed the rhetorical interrogation in a declarative style, by 3.6%, while Maronites translated this interrogation by 15.5% of the total rhetorical interrogation.
