Abstract

The incidence of AKI was higher in female patients compared with the incidence in males, The presence of risk factors like CKD, heart failure, age more than 65 years, DM, HTN, and liver cirrhosis was associated with an increased development of AKI. Nephrotoxic drugs and urinary tract infection are most common predisposing factors of AKI, renal causes of AKI are most commonly seen.
. The total patients admitted in internal Hospital medicine between the first of June till the end of December were 9907 patients among which 636 patients developed AKI with the percentage (6.41%) ,There was 186 (29.2%) male patients and there were 450 (70.8%) female patients.
The incidence of AKI mostly seen between the age group from 51 – 70 years , While The incidence of hypertension among patients with acute kidney injury ranges between normal to high normal blood pressure (<140/90) to grade 1 HTN.
The incidence of AKI among the studied patients with CKD. elderly above 65 years, liver cirrhosis, hypertension and diabetes was relatively high with these risk factors.
The highest incidence of AKI in the presented patients occurred due to nephrotoxic drugs and urinary tract infections , The highest incidence of AKI in the presented patients occurred due to renal causes compared with renal and postrenal causes. , The Incidence of metabolic acidosis in patients with AKI is high.
The incidence of AKI among lupus patients were 111 patients (17.5%).Renal biopsy with patients with AKI were mainly MPGN.
The medical treatment of AKI patients is antibiotics, fluids and diuretics respectively , the management of patients with AKI mainly hemodialysis as replacement therapy while 3 patients received peritoneal dialysis
As regards prognosis in our study, complete recovery occurred in (25.9%) patients , partial recovery became chronic kidney disease occurred in (35.41%) patients, and there was no recovery in (29.2%) patients who became dialysis dependant
As regards the mortality incidence among patients with AKI 42 patients (6.6%) died
