Abstract Recent data suggest that vitamin A could modulate the expression of type 4 interferon receptor enhancing the antireplication effect of interferon- α on hepatitis C virus (HCV). The present study was aiming at promoting and improving the care of HCV patients through studying prevalence of vitamin A deficiency in those patients and to assess whether vitamin A deficiency could be associated with unresponsiveness to interferon-based antiviral therapy. The present study was carried out in the center for treatment of chronic HCV infection in Ismailia Fever Hospital, including 66 patients with chronic HCV infection eligible for combined interferon /Ribaverin therapy. |
