Abstract This was a prospective study; to evaluate the incidence, diagnosis and therapeutic bronchoscopic intervention, of foreign body aspiration (FBA), in children (up to 12 years old). FBA patients presented to the Otorhinolaryngology Department in Menoufia University Hospital and Kobry El Koba military Hospital from the period 1-4-2017 to 30-9-2018. The majority (63%) of patients were below 3 years old; and (16.6%) of patients were from 3 – 6 years old; and (14.9%) of patients were from 6 – 9 years old; while only (5.5%) of patients were from 9 – 12 years old. 57.4% of patients were males; while (42.6%) were females. Most patients (85.2%) live in rural areas; while (14.8%) live in urban areas. Most patients (61.1%) had low status, (35.2%) had middle status; while only (3.7%) had high socio-economic status. 83.3% of patients had chocking, (64.8%) had cough, (31.5%) had dyspnea, (20.4%) had fever, (16.7%) had distress, (3.7%) had cyanosis, (55.6%) had decreased air entry, (46.3%) had localized wheezes. Most patients (55.6%) presented less than 1 day, (20.4%) of patients presented between 1-7 days, while (24 %) of patients presented more than 7 days.29.7% of patients had lung collapse, (20.4%) had hyperinflation, (9.2%) had mediastinal shift, (18.5%) had radio-opaque FB, and (22.2%) had picture of pneu |
