Abstract

Summary
This study was performed to evaluate the effect of Er,Cr:YSGG and diode LASERs on the bone formation and crestal bone loss around immediately placed dental implants.
Twelve patients were selected from the outpatient clinic of prosthodontic Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University.
Patients were randomly divided into 2 groups:
group I: Six patients received two conventional implants inserted immediately in fresh extraction sockets after sequential drilling of the apical portion of the sockets.
group II: Six patients received two conventional implants after sequential drilling of the apical portion of the sockets, but first the extraction sockets and the prepared osteotomies were treated with Er:Cr:YSGG 2780 nm LASER, and then implant was inserted immediately, followed by applying diode 940 nm LASER to both implants labial and lingual mucosal covering.
Conventional complete denture was delivered to the patient three months after implant insertion.
CBCT and Mimics 20.0 software were used to evaluate the density of the peri-implant bone formation in terms of gray scale levels, and crestal bone loss at zero, 1 month and 3 months follow up periods.
Results were recorded, collected, tabulated and statistically analyzed.
Results showed that there is statistically significant difference in the bone density (Grey scale value) in favor of the LASER group when compared to the conventional group, but no statistically significant difference between the two groups in case of the crestal bone loss during the follow up periods.
