Abstract
Purpose : To evaluate the influence of different number and distribution of implants retaining mandibular overdentures by evaluating the electromyographic muscle activity and chewing efficiency. Results: All implant-supported overdentures showed a significant increase in chewing efficiency and electromyography values when compared to Complete denture. These values increased significantly with three implant overdenture when compared to two implant overdenture or one implant overdenture. Conclusion: 3- IROD seem to present a functional advantage vs 2- IROD and 1- IROD. 1- IROD is not recommended for assisting MOD. Recommendation: the results of this study is not recommended the use of single median implant to assist mandibular overdenture.
