Abstract

Paracetamol is widely used as analgesic and ant-pyretic drug. It is generally considered to be safe for use when administered in doses recommended at over doses paracetamol produces acute liver damage.
The purpose of the current study was to investigate the possible protective effect of fennel compared with standard which is silymarin induced by paracetamol in albino male rats. The experiment was applied on thirty adult male albino rats (150-170 g) were prepared for this experiment. They were brought from Laboratory Animal Unit of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University.
Thirty adult male albino rats were allocated into six equal groups, each
of five rats as follow:
group 1 (Control group): Rats received normal saline orally (1 ml/kg b.wt) daily for one month.
group 2 (Paracetamol group): Rats received oral dose of paracetamol 1 gm/kg b.wt for one month daily.
group 3 (Silymarin group): Rats received Silymarin 100 mg/kg b.wt daily for one month daily.
group 4 (Fennel group): Rats received fennel 400mg/kg b.wt orally for one month daily.
group 5 (Silymarin+ Paracetamol group): Rats received Silymarin 2 hours before oral dose of paracetamol for one month daily.
group 6 (Fennel + Paracetamol):Rats received fennel 2 hours before oral dose of paracetamol for one month daily.
