Abstract

Family health care facilities are the first gate that provide child health services; This service reassures the parents about their children’s growth and development, and make an impact on anticipatory guidance issues such as nutrition and breast feeding, etc.
Well-baby examinations ideally are scheduled regularly during the first year of life due to the rapid growth and change that occurs during infancy. During each visit the family physician monitors, advises, and answers questions on a baby’s growth and development.
In Egypt the schedule for periodic examinations includes five visits at least during the first year of life, at the age of two, four, six, nine, twelve months, two visits during the second year of life at eighteen, twenty four months, then one visit at the age of 36, 48 and 60 months. The total numbers of the well-baby clinic visits are ten.
The aim of the work was to assess the utilization of the well-baby clinic in a Family Health unit in al Arish city.
Objectives of the study:
• To determine the level of utilization of the well-baby clinic in the selected health unit in Al-Arish.
• To reveal factors that influence mothers’ attendance at well-baby clinic.
• To assess the satisfaction of mothers as regards services provided in the well-baby clinic.
Subjects and methods:
The study was cross sectional included 150 mothers of under 5 years children attending family health unit in Al Arish city. A predesigned interview questionnaire was used to collect data about sociodemographic characteristics, accessibility, quality and general satisfaction of the well-baby clinic service.
• Low utilization of clinic defined as one to four visits out of the recommended ten visits.
• Moderate utilization of clinic defined as five to seven visits out of the recommended ten visits.
• High utilization of clinic defined as eight to ten visits out of the recommended ten visits
