Abstract

Malnutrition can affect any age group in a community, but infants and young children are the most vulnerable due to their high nutritional requirements for growth and development. Malnutrition used to under nutrition but also refer to over nutrition, malnutrition can be caused by many factors such as: inappropriate food intake, infections, psychosocial deprivation, insanitary environment, lack of hygiene, social inequality Children suffering from stunting may never grow to their full height and their brains may never develop to their full cognitive potential. Globally, approximately 155 million children under five suffer from stunting. These children begin their lives at a marked disadvantage: they face learning difficulties in school, earn less as adults, and face barriers to participation in their communities. Wasting in children is the life-threatening result of hunger and/or disease. Children suffering from wasting have weakened immunity. This study aimed to assess nutritional status of children living at selected orphanage institution.
