Abstract
This thesis deals with a vital problem in image processing, which is resolution enhancement of digital images. Image interpolation with different algorithms is studied in the thesis for both gray scale and color images. The objective of this study is twofold; presenting a framework for image size reduction and reconstruction and a framework for biometric security applications.The first objective is to use decimation techniques to reduce the size of images for storage and communication applications, in order to reduce storage space and communication bandwidth. The ability to reconstruct images at the receiver or when needed for further processing is guaranteed through interpolation.
