Abstract Individuals with the disorder have impaired responses to, processing of, and/or organization of sensory information that affects participation in functional daily life routines and activities. 1 in every 6 children in general population experiences sensory symptoms that may be significant enough to affect aspects of everyday life functions. Many studies reported that a high percentage of children with different neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) show unusual responses to sensory experiences, compared to the responses offered by typically developing children with the same chronological age. Accurate diagnosis is important to getting the child with sensory processing disorder (SPD) treated correctly. Identification of SPD is based mainly on the global clinical impression of experts, who use information from observation or from screening tools that rely on parent or teacher report-measures, so the present study aimed at developing an Arabic questionnaire for identification of sensory processing disorders in preschool Arabic-speaking children. Findings from the current study provide a clear support for the presence of sensory processing differences between 3-year-old through 6-year-old typically-developing children and Children with ASD and ADHD. The designed Arabic questionnaire is a valid and reliable tool for identification of sensory processing disorder in preschool Arabic-speaking children. |
