Abstract

With the increasing demands for high-quality power sources, and reduction of harmonic distortion, a PWM inverter has been used as a key element for a high-performance power conversion system for critical loads such as computers, medical equipment and communication systems. Recently, microcontrollers and digital signal processors (DSP) are used as advanced control techniques. Many researchers developed the software for the control system, which confirmed the high quality of the control based on microcontroller techniques and to provide additional real time processing throughput in an inverter operation, microcontroller’s features minimize the CPU’s overhead in an interrupt intensive application. Inverter is the most important device to the ever-increasing reliance on electronic devices which utilize alternating current power highlights the problems associated with the unexpected loss of power from the Electric grid and in the industry. The main purpose is to design pure sine wave inverter otherwise it disturb the power quality like variation in voltage magnitude, transient in voltages and currents, harmonic content in the waveforms for AC power etc. The places where the electrical infrastructure is not well-developed, brown-outs can prove to be fatal which makes electronic instruments defective. Therefore, there is a need for cost-effective and reliable pure-sine wave inverters. The Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique is one of the most popular new techniques, with this technique harmonics are reduced of inverters. These are used by three sine waves displaced with 120 phase difference as reference signals for three phase inverter which is obtaining pure sine wave in direct current-to-alternating current inverter. AC Induction motor (ACIM) is the workhorse of industrial and residential motor applications due to its durability, robustness and reliability. In today’s energy conscious world, driving and controlling the induction motor efficiently are prime concerns. In addition, the great progress in microprocessor from its flexibility and higher speed to close and open the power electronic switches leads to decrease of using the analogue circuits and control units cost. This thesis proposes an implementation of Microcontroller PIC16F777. Experimental results are presented and analyzed to verify the stability and tracking performance of the proposed motor drive. In this thesis also the MATLAB/SIMULINK model is used to design one of AC voltage source inverter application to solve the problem of power interruption in most critical loads. Having obtained a load of (50kW, 380V, 50Hz) applied on large VSI. The output waveforms in the proposed Pulse-width modulation voltage source inverter are investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Simulations and experimental work are carried out and results presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach. Simulation is carried out by using PROTEUS (simulation), PROTONE IDE (software) and in the experimental work an innovative design prototype model is proposed and developed to verify the simulation results.
