Abstract The Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are a serious concern for physically active adolescents and adults , The ACL is one of the four major ligaments that stabilize the knee joint ,The intercondylar notch is the arch ,or tunnel, between the medial and lateral femoral condyles. More than three quarters of ACL injuries have been reported to occur in noncontact situations , mostly while performing sports. MRI, with its super anatomic detail capability, is an excellent tool to evaluate morphology of the femoral notch and also to study their relationship with ACL injuries. This study included 102 patients having non-contact knee joint trauma attending the outpatient Orthopedics Department of Tanta University Hospital, 51 patients with ACL tear and 51 patients with intact ACL All patients had MRI of the knee, The MRI scans were performed supine and The measurement were performed. The findings of MRI measurements showing that NWI is significantly narrowed in patients with ACL tears compared with the controls patient with intact ACL , suggest that a narrow NWI is associated with an increased risk of ACL injury. |
