Abstract

SUMMARY Posteromedial tibial plateau fractures represent a treatment challenge and range from low-energy injuries in osteopenic bone to high energy trauma with severe soft-tissue damage. It is often difficult to determine which method of fixation is best for any given fracture pattern. In adults, non-surgical treatment has alittle or no place in treatment of tibial plateau fractures due to high rate of mal-union, non-union, posttraumatic arthritis and complications of prolonged recumbency in bed In the current study twenty-one patients with posteromedial tibial plateau fracture were surgically treated through posteromedial approach and followed up for at least 6 months. The age incidence ranged from 25 years to 64 years, with a mean of 42.42 years, 16 males were affected while 5 females were affected. The right side was affected in 9 patients (42.9 %) and the left in 12 patients (57.1%). There were 10 patients with one column fracture, 10 patients with two columns fracture and 1 patient with three columns fracture As regarding mode of trauma, 14 patients had road traffic accident, 5 patients fall and 2 patients twisted. All patients were followed up for six months and assessed both clinically and radiologically according to the Rasmussen scoring
