Abstract

Aim of the study : The aim of this study was to design health education booklet about obligatory vaccination for mothers under five children. Method: This study was carried out at El Sinbelaween district primary health care facilities (health office, family health center and primary health care unit) . The recruited sample in the study were mothers including those who were involved in vaccination process from different age categories, from both sex (Male and female), and different El-Simblwain district primary health care facilities which were selected according to their population density. Tools of data collection (I- IV) were developed by the researcher based on reviewing the relevant literature to design health education booklet;First Socio-economic scale structured interview demographic and occupational characteristics. Second: to to assess mothers’ knowledge. Third: to : assess mother reported Practices .Fourth: to evaluate Health education booklet . Results: The main findings of this study had been summarized as follows: - The present study revealed that, the mean age of the mothers’ was 26.87 ± 5.63 years (range 18–50). - The current study revealed that more than one third (33.4%) of studied mothers had secondary level. - This study revealed that more than half (40%) of studied mothers knew information about vaccination from T.V. - This study revealed that about third ( 37.1% ) of studied mothers knew number of doses of BCG (Bacillus-Calmette-Guerin) vaccine. - Most of mothers (83.0% ) knew that the fever is one of the side effects of vaccination . - As regards to the level of knowledge, the present study showed poor score level of knowledge among the majority (80.4% ) of mothers in relation to importance of vaccination, diseases that vaccination protect from ,contraindication and side effects. - The current study revealed unsatisfactory practice (55.6% ) among all of the studied mothers related to vaccination process management ( before, during and after vaccination). - The study finding revealed that more than half (55.6% ) of studied mothers perform their core roles and responsibilities in vaccination processes unsatisfactory and just less than one half of mothers had good satisfactory practice. - The study finding revealed that the majority of mothers give antipyretic in case of fever after vaccination administration and apply cold compresses at the site of administration. Recommendations: The following recommendations have been suggested: Using of the developed health education booklet in conducting health education program sessions for mothers of under- five children with main emphasis on importance of vaccination & vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs).
