Abstract

Aim of the study: This study aimed to design a guideline for applying evidence-based practices approach at various health care organizations. Method: This study was carried out at various healthcare organizations in Mansoura District (Mansoura University Hospitals, Health Insurance Hospitals, and Primary Health Care Units). The study subjects were recruited from healthcare professionals’ including (head nurses, physicians, dentists, pharmacists, and physiotherapists) who have a bachelor’s degree and higher. As well, have previous knowledge about EBP through an academic course or attended a training program about EBP. Also the study included 19 of policymakers , 12 of the academic and clinical experts in the EBP approach, and 29 of appraisers for evaluating the developed guideline by using seven tools. First tool: personal and occupational characteristics of healthcare professionals and policymakers. Second tool: to extract Knowledge and views of healthcare professionals and policymakers toward EBP. Third tool: to : to extract experts’ views toward EBP. Fourth tool: to assess the level of evidence and grade of recommendations.Fifth tool: to apply the level of evidence. Sixth tool: Delphi survey through conducting three rounds for evaluating the guideline content and structure. Seven tool: to evaluate the developed guideline. Results: The main findings of this study had been summarized as follows: - Few of healthcare professionals have knowledge of evidence-based practice (EBP) and its steps, more than half of them have negative views toward EBP. - Most of policmakers viewed EBP as a necessary approach for policymaking, but the application impeded due to lack of resources and training on it. - All experts agreed reported that applying required building a need for urgency, forming a team, provision of the necessary resources, pilot application, and announcing throughout social media. - Regarding the validity of the guideline; Both academic and clinical experts reported that the process of designing the manual was done in an orderly manner and that the recommendations of the manual were clear, customized, and easy to implement. - With regard to assessing the internal validity of the developed guideline by experts, which indicated the credibility of the handbook. And recommend its application in scientific practice. Recommendations: The following recommendations have been suggested: - Raising awareness of the policymakers and key leaders toward the EBP approach through educational training, workshops, and meeting by using different tools. - Announcement about the developed guideline to the policymakers and key leaders at various healthcare organizations. - Further studies are required to estimate the external validity of the developed guideline to be generalized at various healthcare organizations.
