Abstract

Summary and Conclusion The present study aims to investigate the association of heparanase gene polymorphism with the development of hepatocellular carcinoma in Egyptian patients with HCV-related liver cirrhosis. Twenty patients with HCV-related liver cirrhosis and twenty patients with HCC on top of HCV-related liver cirrhosis were selected to perform the study. They were compared to twenty normal subjects as a control group. All cases were subjected to: - Full History taking. - Complete clinical examination. - Abdominal ultrasonography. - Triphasic abdominal computed tomography. - Routine laboratory investigations: Complete blood count. Liver function tests: Serum bilirubin, ALT, AST, ALP, total proteins, serum albumin, A/G ratio and prothrombin activity. Viral hepatitis markers. Serum alpha-fetoprotein level. - Specific laboratory investigations: Serum heparanase level Heparanase gene polymorphism.
