Abstract

The purpose of this study was to discuss concept, design, construction and the failure analysis of irrigation pumping station. The common problems exposed in irrigation pumping stations and the remedy procedure of these problems are to be indicated. The components of irrigation pumping station are divided to suction side, station building and discharge side. The suction side consists of trash rack, isolating gate and screen cleaning machine. In side station building, motors , main pump and control panel are found. Discharge side consists of valves and mobile crane. Design criteria of the irrigation pumping station depends on collecting of a lot of data about pumping station like ” irrigation demand, flow rates, water levels and topography”. Loss calculations of parts of pumping station is very important to select the appropriate pump to the required system. The installation procedure of pumping station depends on transport size and weight. There are specific steps to construct the pumping station to be ready for operation and service. The mechanical and electrical department (MED) is one of the sectors of the ministry of water resources and irrigation . MED is responsible for operation and maintenance for irrigation and drainage pumping station in Egypt. The pumping stations are divided in five types as irrigation, drainage, emergency, floating and wells.
