Abstract Neurodegeneration is a common terminal pathway present in aging and neurodegenerative diseases.Neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are common causes of increasing morbidity and mortality worldwide. Multiple theories have been driven to establish the concepts about neurodegenerative diseases and their underlying causes.Misfolded protein aggregation, oxidative stress, inflammation, mitochondrial deficits, trophic factor loss, and eventually cell death are considered to be the major underlying mechanisms. Alcohol, a sedative agent with neurodegenerative properties, induces oxidative stress, apoptosis and neuroinflammation so it is a good agent for the induction of experimental neurodegeneration. |
