Abstract Abstract Preeclampsia occurs in approximately 3 to 14 percent of all pregnancies worldwide and about 8 to 14 percent in Egypt. The disease is mild in 75 percent of cases, and severe in 25 percent. Ten percent of preeclampsia occurs in pregnancies less than 34 weeks of gestation. Eighty women during the third trimester were included in this study and divided into the following: group 1 (pre-eclamptic and eclamptic group), included 40 females with pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, which is further divided into: o group A: Mild pre-eclampsia, included 15 females. o group B: Severe pre-eclampsia, included 15 females. o group C: Eclamsia included 10 females. group 2 (Control group); included 40 females with normal uncomplicated pregnancy. There was significant difference between the four studied groups as regards SBP, DBP, ALT, AST, serum magnesium, and serum calcium. There was non significant correlation between studied groups, as regards the age, gestational age, Hb, creatinine. There was highly significant correlation between study group and control group, as regards serum calcium, and Magnesium. There was highly significant correlation between preeclamptic and eclamptic groups A & B& C, as regards serum calcium and magnesium. There was astrong relation between low level of serum calcium, magnesium and severity of pre eclampsia. Levels of calcium and magnesium were lower in severe preeclampsia and eclamptic patients. |
