Abstract
The present study was carried out during spring and summer (March to September of 2015 and 2016) at Alrawdh village, Mallawy district Minia Governorate. Three apiaries every one included five colonies were located at different altitudes : The first was located at the ground (0 m), the second was located at roof top 8 m altitude and the third was located at roof top 11 m altitude, to study this points:
Studying Behavior characteristics of the bee colonies at different altitudes.
Determination of production capacities of the bee colonies located at different altitudes.
Detecting diseases and pests attack the honeybee colonies located at different altitudes.
This study concluded that:-
1- The maximum number of the foraging bee workers was 32.50 workers/
min. at 11 a.m. at 11 m. altitude on April. And the maximum number of return
bee was 49.00 workers/ min. at 3 p.m. at 11 m. on June during 2015 season.
2- At 8 m. and 11m. Altitude absconding did not occur while it was
occurred at 0 m. level during 2015 season.
3- The maximum honey area was 400.50 sq. inch/ colony at 8m. Altitude during
2015 season.
4- The maximum pollen area was 345.00 sq. inch/ colony at 11 m. Altitude during
2015 season.
5- The maximum sealed brood area was 333.00 sq. inch/ colony at 11m. Altitude
on July during 2015 season.
6- Also, the maximum unsealed brood area was 243.66 sq. inch/ colony at 11m.
Altitude on June during 2015 season.
7- At zero level it was Infection with Galleria mellonella L. during 2015 season
while at 8 m. and 11 m. It was no infection with it during 2015 and 2016 seasons.
8- Generally, high altitude was the best for keeping bees, but during 2016 season It was noticed that the values were lower in 2016 than in 2015 season. This may be due to that bees nuisance the neighbors in the surround areas so that they try to fight them also, we were noticed that a lot of bees attack artificial lights at the night . So, many urban areas can keep bees on their government buildings such as schools, universities, museums, and others.
