Abstract In many psychiatric disorders, patients are repetitively involved in behaviors that are disruptive for themselves and their environment and the idea that compulsivity is an important behavioral dimension that needs to be investigated across disorders is gaining popularity, more research studies are increasingly attending to concerns related to compulsive behaviors and behavioral addictions. OCD was, for a long time, the prototype of a compulsive disorder but now compulsivity and impulsivity cut across many disorder and increasing research is investigating their role in different psychiatric disorders and psychopathologies. The review of literature consists of three chapters. Chapter one tries to gather a definition for the most common compulsive behaviors including (compulsive buying behavior, compulsive sexual behavior, compulsive internet use, compulsive overeating and compulsive exercise) and shed a light on some of the most investigated theories of their neurobiology. nd particularly medical students, it also addresses some of the perpetuating factors contributing to depressive symptomatology among university students. Chapter three focuses on the relationship between the most common compulsive behaviors and depressive symptoms that were mentioned in the literature. |
