Abstract Although, renal transplantation is accepted as the best treatment modality for most patients with end-stage renal disease, the associated RT complications are still a significant cause of morbidity and/or graft failure. These complications are of particular serious nature because the compromised organ is a solitary kidney and the patient is heavily immunosuppressed. Hence, early and prompt diagnosis and treatment of these complications is critical for graft and patient survival. Therefore, we focused in this study on the diagnosis and the treatment of post RT urological complications in the first year after renal transplantation procedure. This prospective clinical study included 68 end stage renal disease(ESRD) patients who underwent RT in Modena University Hospital in Italy. All the transplanted kidneys were obtained from cadaveric donors and the procedures were performed by multidisciplinary expert urosurgical team. All transplant recipients were followed-up at regular intervals from the day of discharge from hospital till the end of the first year reporting both early (1st month) and late (after the 1st month) RT associated urological complications focusing on different diagnostic and treatment modalities and outcomes |
