Abstract

SUMMARY &CONCLUSION Different researchers have designed various models over the past two decades to predict fetal weight using ultrasound. Different fetal anthropometric parameters are used to measure the desired result. Measuring biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC) and femur length (FL) may be used to measure estimated fetal weight.
The sonographic ability to predict antenatal fetal weight has been studied using a variety of formulas that incorporate biometric measurements such as biparietal diameter; headcircumference; abdominal circumference; abdominal diameter length of femur or different combinations of these measurements.
Subcutaneous fat deposition is very small during the first 6 months of gestation. Between 24-40 weeks; skin fold thickness on the abdomen increases from an average of 1.0 to 3.4 mm at 1-2 cm lateral to the umbilicus. Total fetal fat increases from 4% of body weight at 28 weeks of gestation to 14% at 40 weeks of gestation. In the subcutaneous adipose tissue, about 75% of fetal body fat is found near term.
In the anterior third of the abdominal circumference, the fetal abdominal subcutaneous tissue thickness was determined by positioning the cursor at the outer and inner edges of the echogenic fat row. There was a significant positive association between the
