Abstract

Powdery mildew caused by Erysiphe heraclei DC is considered one of the most important foliar diseases which is spread and attack parsley (Petroselinum sativum L.) in the different cultivation areas, causing severe damage to the vegetative crop, which in turn reflected negatively on the number of inflorescences and essential oil yields. The typical symptoms of powdery mildew were observed on parsley plants during annual disease survey at the growing season, 2016/17 from January to April in several districts of Fayoum governorate, which is considered one of the most Governorates in Egypt in terms of the planted areas with parsley. The causal agent of powdery mildew of parsley was identified as E. heraclei according to the morphological characteristics of the Anamorph stage. No Cleistothecia were found during the trial period. Among the six cultivated host plants belong to the Apiaceae family tested for their susceptibility to the infection with powdery mildew caused by E. heraclei, powdery mildew was developed on three host plants viz., parsley, dill and coriander. Meanwhile, the fungus wasn’t able to infect fennel, anise and cumin.
Under in vitro, all the tested treatments achieved an obviously significant reduction to the spore germination of E. heraclei compared with control. This reduction gradually increased by increasing the
