Abstract A great attention has been paid for natural compounds having anti-tumor effect as they are supposed to be non-toxic to healthy cells. There is an increasing research interest to assess the anti-tumor effect of hesperetin (HST), an important flavonoid of citrus fruits, and curcumin, the main active constituent of turmeric, given the fact that both have shown promising pharmacological and therapeutic effects against various diseases. Poor response to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-based chemotherapy and dose-dependent adverse effects represent major obstacle to treat patients suffering from HCC. Therefore, many researches have been directed towards enhancing 5-FU-induced anti-cancer effect and attenuating its toxicity. HST and CUR showed a promising anti-cancer effect and also can be used as chemosensitizers with chemotherapeutic drugs. |
