Abstract

Meningitis is considered one of the leading causes of high mortality rate among children below 5 years. Delayed treatment, limited diagnostic facility and poor standard of care are major factors for unfavorable outcome and lead to many complications, even it lead to child death. Nurses who provide direct care to those children need to be aware about the essential elements of care. This study was conducted to determine the effect of instruction guidelines on nurses’ performance for children with meningitis. A quasi experimental research design was conducted at ICU of Tanta fever hospital which includes 4 beds, Kafer ElShikh fever hospital which includes 14 beds and El -Menshawy general hospital which includes 5 beds. All available nurses (64) working at the previously mentioned settings were included. (19 nurses from Tanta, 25 from Kafr el shikh, and 20 nurses from El-menshawy general hospital). (64) Children early diagnosed with meningitis (both bacterial and viral), under treatment ,admitted within 6 months, and their age ranged from 1 to 5years (as it is the most common age admitted to hospitals with meningitis with in this period).
