Abstract
This study aimed to clarify the association of GPC-3 with Wnt & MMPs genes expressions in HCC which may provide valuable insight into the pathogenesis of HCC and could have significant prognosis and therapeutic implications for HCC patients.The study was done on 50 patients of HCC and 50 healthy controls classified into 2 groups; group 1: 50 HCC patients and group 2 : 50 samples from the healthy safety margin of liver cancer of the same patients were included as a control group . GPC-3 , Wnt-3 and MMP-9 were estimated by quantitative real time PCR (RT-qPCR). Results showed that mRNA levels of GPC-3, Wnt-3 & MMP-9 were measured by RT-qPCR . Patients with HCC showed increased expression of GPC-3 relative to controls, elevated expression of Wnt-3 and MMP-9 relative to controls, GPC-3 and Wnt-3 were positively correlated to each other and also there is a positive correlation between GPC-3 and MMP-9. Results confirmed that there is a correlation between GPC-3 and HCC , but little is known about the mechanism. It may be through activation of Wnt pathway.
