Abstract

Out study aimed to assess the role of combination of diffusion weighted imaging and dynamic contrast enhanced MRI in characterization of breast cancer. Our study included 32 female patients with 43 breast lesions all were evaluated by DCE-MRI and DWI. These lesions included 18 benign and 25 malignant lesions based on histopathological examination either tissue pathology or aspiration cytology. We classified lesions according to MRI BI-RADS lexicon into enhancing lesions and non-enhancing lesions. Enhancing lesions was classified into mass lesions and non-mass lesions each of the was evaluated according to the MRI lexicon descriptors, also time to signal intensity curve was done for all enhancing lesions. In our study, the sensitivity and specificity of DCE-MRI examination were 96% and 83.3% respectively; this was based on the combination of morphologic and kinetic criteria. Our study showed that the best ADC cut off value to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions was 1.4×10-3 mm²/s. malignant lesions exhibited lower mean ADC values compared with those of benign lesions.
