Abstract

This study investigated the effect of using brain based learning program on preparatory stage students’ vocabulary retention, use and reducing their English language learning anxiety. Sixty students from El-Shaheed Ahmad Ibrahiem preparatory school, Minia Educational Directorate, Minia governorate were randomly selected. The study adopted the quasi experimental design. Sixty participants were divided into two groups. The treatment group (n= 30) was taught by using the brain based learning program (BBLP), while the non-treatment group (n=30) was taught by using the regular method of teaching. The instruments of study included a vocabulary retention test, a vocabulary use test, and an English language learning anxiety scale. Analysis of the collected data indicated that the brain based learning program participants achieved significantly higher levels in vocabulary retention and use than those of the non-treatment one. They also achieved significantly lower levels of English language learning anxiety than those of the non-treatment one. It was concluded that the brain based learning program helped first year preparatory school students to improve vocabulary retention, use and could reduce their English language learning anxiety.
