Abstract

CNS anomalies are an important cause of neonatal morbidity
mortality. 3D/4D US has an advantage over the conventional 2D US
as it provides additional multiple options like multiplanar view
(MPR), tomographic view & surface rendering view leading to
accurate diagnosis of fetal congenital anomalies.
The aim of this study was to evaluate role of the 4D
ultrasound in diagnosis of in utero congenital CNS anomalies.
The current study was conducted on 30 pregnant females
with suspected congenital CNS anomalies by 2D ultrasound in Tanta
University Hospitals.
All the patients were subjected to 2D ultrasound
examination, 4D ultrasound examination in cases with suspected
anomalies by 2D ultrasound.
Out of 30 anomalies, 2 anomalies (6.5 %) were a lobar
holoprosencephaly; 6 anomalies (20 %) were Anencephaly, 3
anomalies (10 %) were excencephaly, 1 anomalies (3.5 %) were
Aqueductal stenosis, 3 anomalies (10 %) were chiari malformation
with its two types I & II, 3 anomalies (10 %) were Dandy walker.
Three anomalies were hydranencephaly (10 %), 3
meningeocele (10 %), 1 Spina bifida (3.5 %), 2 case were
obstructive hydrocephalus distal to 4th ventricle (obstruction of
foramen of luschka & magendi) (6.5%).
