Abstract

Thiosemicarbazides have provoked wide interest for their significant biological and pharmaceutical activities, such as antibacterial, antiviral, antimalarial, antileprotic and antineoplastic as well as anticancer activity. The current interest in thiosemicarbazides is due to the presence of various donor atoms (N, S and O-donors), which exhibit diverse bonding modes leading to different structural motifs. The main aim of the present thesis is focused on the preparation and characterization employing elemental analyses, thermal (TG and DrTG), spectral (IR, UV-Visible, mass and 1H NMR ) and magnetic measurements of new complexes of 2-hydroxy-4,4-dimethyl-6-oxo-N-phenylcyclohex-1-enecarbothioamide (HDDPT) and N-(cyclohexa-2,4-dienyl)-3-hydroxy-1-oxo-1H-indene-2-carbothioamide (HPIT) with Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Zn(II) and Hg(II) metal ions. Also, biological activity studies were carried out. The geometries are suggested for the prepared complexes based on the data evaluated from spectral and magnetic measurements; complexes have octahedral and square planner geometries. Finally, the compounds displayed a potent activity against various bacterial strains as well as the corrosion inhibition of C-Steel in 1 M HCl in absence and presence of different doses of both ligands have been investigated using chemical and electrochemical techniques.
