Abstract The current study was an attempt to investigate the effectivness of using the Humanistic Approach to develop EFL creative writing skills (accuracy, fluency, flexibility, and originality) of secondary school students. Two groups of first-year secondary stage students were randomly selected from Islam Mohammed Negm Secondary School for Boys and Girls, in 2018-2019 academic year, (32 students in the experimental group and 32 students in the control group). The two groups are of the same age. To find if both groups were homogenous in their creative writing skills before conducting the study, both groups were pre-tested using the creative writing pretest which was designed by the researcher. She also designed an equivalent version to post-test the two groups after teaching the first six units of the students’ curriculum and three chapters of their story ”Oliver Twist” using the Humanistic Approach and adding some creative writing activities. A scoring rubric, a checklist, a teachers’ guide were also designed. The data gathered were subjected to both quantitative and qualitative analyses. The findings revealed that teaching through the Humanistic Approach developed the students’ EFL creative writing skills. |
