Abstract Burn injuries are major health problem. World Health Organization (WHO) data on burn injuries in East Mediterranean Region (EMR) indicates that burns remain one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Burns are caused by an acute transfer of energy, generating areas of stasis, hyperemia and necrosis, and an acute inflammatory response. Burns may be caused by heat, chemicals, electricity, friction or exposure to extreme cold. There are also iatrogenic burns that may occur under general anesthesia or sedation and tends to be deep and wide as a patient cannot complain under such conditions. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a plasma fraction with platelet concentration 3 to 7 folds higher than that in the whole blood. For the last decade, several reports have focused on platelet rich plasma and its role in treatment of soft tissue lesions. PRP acts through infiltration of a high concentration of platelets at the site of the lesion. Aim of the Work: The aim of the present work was to study the effect of platelet rich plasma on wound healing after induced thermal burn in adult male albino rats. Material and Methods: Sixty adult male albino rats were included in this study and were divided into three groups: |
