Abstract Dental caries is the most common chronic disease in childhood. New methods of caries prevention have been focusing on occlusal pit and fissure caries, as this type of caries have always been the earliest and most prevalent of all types. Different types of fissure sealants have been investigated, and it is a clear fact that clinical retention of sealants was found to be the factor of highest impact on caries prevention. However, achieving a successful and durable bonding procedure involves many steps, is technique sensitive, and time consuming. This study was planned to evaluate sealant retention and development of caries Embrace wetbond and Clinpro. Clinpro was used as a conventional BIS-GMA unfilled resin and Embrace wetbond is one of relatively recent introduced sealant tested to be used in moisture conditions and has physical properties similar to other commonly used sealant. Subjects and methods: - The criteria used to determine sealant status was Modified Simonsen’s criteria, 1991 for evaluation of sealant retention and development of caries, which are relatively simple to follow. Starting follow up immediately after insertion (baseline) and a follow up periods: 2 month, 4 months, .6 months and scores ranging from score 0 to score 4. - A total number of thirty eight patients were selected from outpatient clinic in Pediatric and Public Health Department, Faculty of Dentistry Cairo University. Their ages ranged from 6- 9 years. - Each patient had two mandibular right and left first permanent molars with deep pits and fissures and caries free, (Split mouth technique). - The materials were applied using rubber dam isolation, and according to manufacturers’ instructions for every material. - The total sample was divided into two groups, group A: in which randomly mandibular first permanent molars on the lower right or left side of the jaw were sealed with Embrace wetbond, and group B: in which randomly mandibular first permanent molars on the lower right or left side of the jaw were sealed with Clinpro. Immediately after treatment (baseline), clinical evaluation for the sealants was inspected by dental explorer and the occlusion was checked by articulating paper. |
