Abstract In the present study, The antiviral activity of Illicium verum extracts were evaluated in broiler infected with HPAIV H5N1, through, clinical signs, PM lesions, body weight, weight gain, haemagglutination inhibition test, nitric oxide and lysozyme level. There was seven groups with different handling method: challenged non vaccinated and non treated group (Gp A), Vaccinated& challenged and treated with Illicium verum extracts groups (Gp C& Gp D), Control group(Gp E), vaccinated& challenged and non treated group ( Gp B) and challenged & treated and non vaccinated groups (Gp F& Gp G). Clinical signs and postmortem lesions were recorded from the first day, (GP E) showed no clinical and PM lesions. Groups (GP C& GP D) showed mild clinical signs, pm lesions and highest survival rate in infected groups (80%). While, (Gp A) has the highest mortality rate (80%), sever clinical signs (Twenty four hours, post infection (PI), the birds showed signs of depression and anorexia. Four days PI all birds suffered from greenish diarrhea, congested comb and wattle and the birds were feverish with neurological signs that differ from moderate to severe which characterized by tremors, imbalanced movement and paralysis) and sever PM lesions (generalized septicaemia, peticheal haemorrhages on serosal and abdominal and coronary fat and on thymus gland, congested lungs, heart, liver and duodenum).
