Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of anti- H. pylori treatment on patients with ITP and its effect on blood platelet count& clinical outcome in the period from January 2019 to December 2019.
This study included 100 chronic ITP patients 63 of them diagnosed as having H. pylori infection by H. pylori antigen in stool; these patients were given standard antibiotic therapy for H. pylori eradication (amoxicillin 50 mg, clarithromycin 15 mg, for two weeks and omeparazole 1mg for one month). H. pylori antigen in stool was repeated after treatment. 37 chronic ITP patients, -Ve to H. pylori. The effect of anti- H. pylori treatment was analyzed, and the blood platelets were counted before &after treatment for six month duration.
According to results of H. pylori antigen in feaces following H. pylori tratment; 49 patients(77.7%) responded to treatment (responders), 14 patients (22.2%) still had H. pylori infection (non-responders).
During follow up; significant elevation in platelet count and clinical improvement was detected in group of patients who response to triple therapy in comparison with other group of patients who didn’t respond to treatment, with the peak of this increase in platelet count at 6th month.
Patients who response to treatment showed significant and sustained increase in platelet count before &after H. pylori treatment till the end of follow up.
Among this; significant increase in platelet count occurred in responders reached its peak at 6th month. While in non-responders no significant increase was detected in platelet count during the follow up period.
No correlation between platelet counts with age & sex detected before and after H. pylori treatment.
